Tonight me and my pack have dinner at Café Restaurant Amsterdam. I am totally excited because restaurants belong to my favorite places and we haven’t been to one in a long time. I missed the heavenly flavors of delicious food, drinks and people’s feet. Large spaces are my thing where I can sniff around without getting stuck. I think I am speaking for all dogs here.
Café Amsterdam is huge and very popular. Especially among locals like us. It breathes the charm of the old industrial pumping station that used to provide the people and dogs of Amsterdam with fresh drinking water. Right down the street is Westerpark so it’s a great territory.
While we are en route to our table I make sure that I am taking the lead. I’m fully focused on clearing the path for my pack. The floor is pretty clean but trust me. I detect the tiniest shrimp or bread crumb and suck it up in a split second. With my eyes closed!
The atmosphere is relaxed and people are enjoying a good meal. The menu is very diverse and ranges from Dutch fish and sea food, to steak, burger, pasta or veggies. Even the most demanding human taste bud gets satisfied. Dogs are so much simpler and less complicated. Take me for example. I eat about everything. No problem.
It doesn’t take long until my pack gets served which means I remain leashed to the foot of the chair without any further attention. It sucks. There is still so much more to discover.
But you know what? It’s OK because I know I will be compensated. Here’s the thing: The Café Amsterdam menu card offers a dish that humans and their dogs can share. That’s so genius!
See, I don’t even mind lying on the floor anymore while my pack is sitting at the richly decorated table. Not at all.…as long as you keep your hands off my bone. Do we understand each other?
The evening is almost over and I can finally sit on the lap again. On our way out, a waitress walks up to me and lets me sniff on her finger telling my pack that she is crazy about dachshunds. Her parents have one aswell.
And then she says something so incredibly sharp. With a big smile she goes: Do you know the famous saying? Dachshunds don’t have a boss, they have personnel!
You hit the nail on the head girl!
