Today is my first Kingsday ever. I can’t wait to see how people celebrate the birthday of King Willem Alexander.
I know that the city will be turning into a big party zone and a vrijmarkt where kids and adults sell things or play games. Swinging canal boats, music and dancing everywhere. Just one big happy crowd!
Let me say this first: If you are a claustrophobic dog or despise the color Orange then you might not like Kingsday at all.
I wouldn’t generally advise dogs to join because it is so very crowded. I call myself lucky because my mom takes me with her, in my bag. I get carried around comfortably and be in full control. Got to keep my eyes open, we might run into the Royal family.
Let the party begin
We arrive at Prinsengracht where a friend lives. Royal seating on the porch and an unbelievable view on the crowd. OK everyone. I am ready.

They are so flirty. Amazing how these fine young men here can dress up …
…or down for the Kings birthday.
The atmosphere is becoming more cozy. I get cuddles from strangers. There is a sentiment in the air and it’s getting more intense by the minute.
Little floral hat
From the moment I put on my little floral hat there is no more holding back. Smiles turn into admiration.
People literally adore me. They are reaching out to touch me, trying to kiss me, taking pictures. I see signs of disbelief in their faces. Some are close to breaking out in tears. It’s crazy, I swear.
What is going on here? Am I missing something? Never in my life have I gotten more attention than today. Why are people so emotional?
It can’t just be my little floral hat.
Royal family member
Hold on for a sec!
Could it be… that people mix me up? They must be thinking that I am a member of the royal family. Now I know what they see in me: The Royal Dog!
Wow. If that’s the case… then I will not try to convince anyone of the contrary. Nope. I like it this way and obviously, everyone else does too!
Later at home I get a message from my friend Binkie. She is a popular influencer and I know she has connections to the royal family. Of course, she is bragging with a group shot together with Willem and Maxima. So typical.
But you know what? I take up the challenge…Watch out King Willem Alexander and Queen Maxima. I’ll be back.
