Dog-guide Amsterdamse Bos

Amsterdam has it all. The old canals, the busy parks, it’s all great. But let me tell you, Amsterdamse Bos is the real deal. A full-fledged forest located right at the city limit of Amsterdam. The flavors of uncountable trees, bushes, grass fields and water places are a source of pure dog joy. I come here with my friends frequently and we never get bored. There is so much to explore. So check out my top 5 favorite things to do.

Enjoy the panorama of the Bosbaan

From the terrace of restaurant De Bosbaan you have an iconic view on the large water of the Bosbaan. Rowers are busy screaming at eachother with megaphones while dogs take their owners on expanded walks along the water. You can escape the crowded path and walk in the woods – the smell is even better there.

Swim in the Nieuwe Meer

The area around Nieuwe Meer is a great place to walk and swim. The piers and little bays are very popular among dogs and humans. I join my friend Fientje because Fientje is crazy about water. Before you can count to three she is in it. For myself, I am not so much the water type. To tell you the truth, I despise water on my body. But that’s not a problem. I just spend time watching Fientje and strolling around searching for duck poop.

Feel the love at Chez Favié

I don’t know what it is about Paviljoen Chez Favié. Even my friend Binkie is head over heels about it. Which is kind of shocking because Binkie is a petfluencer and likes the bling-world. And Chez Favié is so NOT bling. It is a rather simple place, Binkie would call it ‘shabby-chic’. But there is super-fresh water at the entrance and the interior has this bohemian touch. Dogs and their owners are completely Zen. A perfect symbiosis you know. Binkie and I agree that Chez Favié has a special love vibe.

Dive into playground adventures

My buddy Bowie loves the playgrounds. He always brags that he can play the wooden xylophone, which I can’t because of my short legs. He even claims that he has slipped down the huge slide, behind my back he says. Well, seeing is believing. Or should I give him the benefit of the doubt?

One thing is for sure. Bowie has never made it across the hanging bridge. So what’s up Superdog? OK, I don’t hold it against him. Nobody would get me on that flabby thing. It’s hanging half way in the water. Nope, I see y’all later.

Discover the gallery at Boerderij Meerzicht

Boerderij Meerzicht is an experience on it’s own. In the restaurant they make pancakes. Sweet pancakes, hearty pancakes. Just pancakes. So if you are not into pancakes this might not be the place for you to eat. No big deal because there is much more to experience.

There is stuff for kids and I can smell farm animals in the back part. Though my first and foremost interest goes to the dog gallery in the restaurant. Fascinating how these dogs appear like the hall of fame of Amsterdam’s nobel citizens. I do my best to fit in. You think I have a chance?

Only thing that sucks at Boerderij Meerzicht is that my mom thinks it’s cute when I pose in the big wooden klompen along the way out. Come on mom, give me a break. This is embarrassing.

  1. Hahaha, Pim! If we dogs could laugh I would laugh my head off about the picture with you in the wooden shoe. My mom would never get me into one of those.
