Last weekend me and my pack were invited for an opening at the gallery Fons Welters. The talented Dutch-born, London-based artist Magali Reus is presenting her new works. She is a pretty impressive young artist who already had a show at the Stedelijk Museum and other international exhibitions. Her show at Fons is called Shadow Tonics and I am very curious.
Favorite gallery
Fons Welters belongs to our favorite galleries. It has this amazing entrance made by Atelier van Lieshout. You can’t miss it when you walk by. I love to come here. Fons always greets me first before he greets the rest of my pack. That says a lot about him. I would call him a real friend.
Mushrooms
I found Magali’s work fascinating right away. Beautiful photography of mushrooms. They look so delicate, like little creatures from a fairytale. Though, I care more about the smelly environment they grow in. Did you know that they live from organic leftovers like dead insects and stuff? Oh yeah, good old rich biomass flavor.
Mushrooms are cool. I mean, these guys have been on the planet for trillions of years. Much longer than us dogs and humans. And they are still here! Real survivors. That’s why they are named Knaves I guess. Little ‘rascals’ or ‘boeven’ as Dutch people say.
Installations
Look at this interresting installation named Bonelight. Great name. It looks so common and familiar. Reminds me of camping. Just a cosy feeling. That’s the great thing about art. Everyone can have his own interpretation.
The Clay installations are solid doors that look worn out and smell like metal, paint and dirt. I am crazy about doors, always curious what’s behind it. Dirt sounds interresting in any case. When I get closer I notice that there is nothing behind the doors. They are fake. Or let’s rather say an illusion?
Now, here comes the most interesting object in the show. Looks very promising. I take my time to examine it thoroughly.
OK people, I am ready. Let’s start the show.
What’s up?? Isn’t there a performance planned? I am waiting…
No performance?? You must be kidding me.
Am I disappointed? Yes, I am.
Do I still recommend the exhibition? Sure I do, no hard feelings. The works are really fascinating and definitely worthwhile to see, for dogs and their whole pack.
