Once in a while Bowie and I need to escape from the city. Nothing against city parks with all the yummie odours. But it can get quite packed, especially in good weather. To get away from the craziness Bowie and I do regular tours to the greater Amsterdam area, to unwind in the nature.
I have never been to Twiske before. Located up North of Amsterdam it is a little green gem outside the city. It was Bowie’s idea. He wanted to spend time on the dog beach and show me around.
On our way from the harbour to the beach, we stopped for a minute. Wow! Endless nature, as far as the nose can reach. No cars, no bikes, no trams, no roller skates. This is close to paradise. Clever from us to come here in the morning.
When we got closer to the beach, I couldn’t hold back any longer. I ran like a maniac. Finally! Soft sand under my paws. Bowie started meditating in the water while I was inhaling the morning breeze. It was so peaceful. We thought we were alone when all of a sudden …
…this group of young rowdies was flocking together not far from us …..oh no… they are running in our direction…
I hate this rude boy behavior! Can we go to the Harbor café please? Now?!
OK, this is my type of place. Classic marine style, very cultivated. We had refreshments and were taking it easy. They also offer treats for people, so everybody was happy.
When we started our hiking tour, we passed Paviljoen Twiske which is nearby. I peeked into the backyard and sensed a lounge-type, relaxed ambience. Definitely a place to check out next time.
Bowie couldn’t wait to show me his secret places in the woods and along the water. He did not promise too much. It was beautiful. I just let myself be carried along.
Hold on…what is this? We heard a few dogs barking. This must be the doggy daycare I was 100% sure. Let’s check it out. We took a quick look from the outside. In terms of style, I would say… shabby chic. A Hippie-type of interior. Hey, why not. Twiske offers something for everybody.
It was a beautiful and intense day which gave me a feeling of accomplishment. Back at home I enjoyed the pleasant tiredness. I deserve to hang on the couch for the rest of the day.
