For my Amsterdam dog blog I am always looking for places where my fellow dogs can feel comfortable and just be themselves. Café Brecht is exactly my type of place. Totally relaxed and very unique. A hidden gem if you ask me. It is not fancy nor trendy. No place to see or be seen. It’s a place to just be!
Berlin-style living room
The outside of Café Brecht is rather unspectacular. But the inside has this wow-effect. Once you enter the room you literally get drawn into the morbid charme of a Berlin-style living room in the 1950’s of the last century.
The place breathes the spirit of famous German writer and poet Berthold Brecht. There is something theatrical about it, actually it could be the stage setting of one of his famous plays.
Berthold was considered an intellectual. But don’t ask me about it. A dog’s brain is not made for philosophical matters. For us it is not interesting. So while you figure out what this sentence means, I keep an eye on the bird that’s hiding in the coucou clock. OK?
One of Berthold’s best buddies was a guy named Karl. Karl the hipster. Big beard, long hair you know. Typical. An early influencer if you want. And it seems that Karl was always in for a good beer.
Special treats for dogs and their pack
That’s why Café Brecht offers an extra-long list of beers, from different areas, countries and breweries. Especially lovers of German beer will experience the paradox of choice, in the best sense of course.
From my favourite couch I have a perfect view across the whole room. I know my mum must be coming back with our treats in a minute. I’m excited. What will she bring?
Ahh! For herself she got „PIMM’S and Ginger Ale“. I know she just ordered it because it is named after me. Do you see the spelling mistake? It’s ridiculous that no one noticed it before. But mom loves the drink so much, I see it though the fingers.
Now you guess what I am getting?!
Yess! My own portion of my favourite dog cookies. The most delicious cookies ever. I don’t want to brag, you know. But this is my own brand Pim’s Home made. These cookies are so yummie, no dog can ever resist them. I swear!
Sandra, the owner of Cafe Brecht is always looking for high quality, local produce to spoil her guests. She does not only treat her human guests with extra care but also has an eye for the special wishes of her fluffy visitors.
What does that say about her? And about Café Brecht? Exactly! I respect Sandra. She’s my girl!
PS: On some evenings Café Brecht shows movies, soccer games or other sports on a big screen. Super gezellig. Check out their agenda and see if there is something you and your dog might fancy for an evening out together.
