Cafe Restaurant Hoogendam is the perfect place to spend a cosy, relaxed afternoon together with friends. And that’s what we did last Sunday. If you wonder why Hoogendam is one of my favourite spots then I have a simple answer for you: Because they know how to make dogs feel welcome.
Let’s just take the terrace along the waterfront. I love the smell of the Ij water and can appreciate the modern, experimental architecturre of the Ij area. What a great hangout in the summer. But no problem during wintertime. The inside has this warm relaxed bohemian atmosphere and is quite spacy.
Our possy is already waiting for us at the table so let’s hurry up.
Oops. We have not even been sitting down when the waitress serves me a bowl of fresh water. Right away! Even before she turns to my people. That’s what I call a dog friendly restaurant!
Look at the kitchen in the back, I do sense an irresistable smell. Can we sit over there please? Please?? I put on my most pitiful face but without success. We are settling down at the table.
Today, we just meet for coffee and some good old Dutch Apple Cake. But you must know that Hoogendam also serves great breakfast, lunch and international street food specialties for dinner.
While my people are busy talking, I take my time to check out the scene.
The place is quite crowded. An urban jungle… but upside down. Plants on the ceiling instead of on the ground. Out of my reach, I mean what’s the point? Well, I see it through the fingers because they are playing reggae music. My absolute favourite. Yah man, cool runnings!
The very best about this Sunday afternoon is of course the good company. My lovely friends spoil me with plenty of attention and cuddles. What else do you want as a dog?
